Kirks Folly Creates Vintage Heirloom Jewelry

Kirks Folly Creates Vintage Heirloom Jewelry
BellaOnline

A family-owned business started in New York City in 1979, Kirks Folly specializes in fantasy jewelry and has grown in popularity with its frequent appearances on home-shopping channel QVC. The collection spans such whimsical themes as fairies and fantasy animals to romance and storybook legends. The company offers a sparkling selection of necklaces, earrings, watches, pins, hair accessories, bracelets, charms, anklets, and “handy helpers,” and many out-of-date and sample pieces have become hot collectors’ items on the online auction sites.

The Kirks Folly story started with the magical creations of sisters Helen and Jenniefer Kirk. After designing embellished hair ornaments (Glitter Sticks), the sisters began a campaign to sell their jewelled creations to major department stores in New York. Enchanting store owners and customers alike, the sisters recruited their brother, George, and sister, Elizabeth, to help keep up with the success of their products. The fledgling family company adopted Jenniefer´s personal philosophy, “If you can dream it and believe it, you can do it.”

In 1992, the QVC channel decided to take a chance on the fanciful creations of Kirks Folly with an hour-long show, which paid off after the fairy-tale and angelic-themed products sold out in the first 40 minutes. The television audience fell in love with the detailed fantasy designs, and Kirks Folly has been a popular QVC guest ever since, with a collection that continues to grow with each pasing year.

For those captivated by ornate, glittering jewelry with whimsical designs, then the Kirks Folly jewelry collection might be something to consider. There are pieces for every price range, and a large online gallery ensures that everyone can find something to suit their tastes. It’s a wonderful resource for unique holiday jewlery, pins for new and expectant mothers, and birthday jewelry. The company also frequently designs pieces that address current events and society issues such as tsunami relief, US troop support, Alzheimers awareness, cancer support and AIDS awareness. For those interested, the company has an online Fantasy Club, and offers free newsletters that keep customers updated on current and future offerings as well as information about this charming family company.

2006/7 Indian Budget Well Received by Gem and Jewelry Sector

2006/7 Indian Budget Well Received by Gem and Jewelry Sector
(February 28, ‘06, 4:03 IDEX Online Staff Reporter)

Following the 2006-7 Indian budget speech, Bakul R. Mehta, the chair of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council has congratulated the Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram for the special considerations made towards the gem and jewelry sector.

Says Mehta, “the Indian gem and jewelry industry is now set to make a quantum leap forward.” In his budget, the minister announced the establishment of an expert committee to consider recommendations proposed by the industry, which will help India become an international gem and jewelry trading hub.

The committee is expected to work out details, rationalize taxes, and streamline rules within the next month or so. This, together with the minister’s in-principle agreement to replace income-tax for the gem and jewelry industry with a presumptive tax – as is already the norm in international centers – will boost exports, increase foreign direct investment in this sector and let India move to the forefront of the global gem and jewelry industry

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council also welcome the finance minister’s announcement that with declining import duties, export oriented units (EOU) should be on a par with domestic tariff area (DTA) units. “The announcement of EOU to be made at par with DTA units is also a welcome move as it would provide the same level playing field and help industry boost its exports in future,” says Mehta.
